Bloc Quebecois blogs about research funding

April 22nd, 2009

The Bloc Quebecois has decided to make political hay with the Government’s research funding cuts. In their party’s blog (Le Blogue Quebecois, which while a funny title, is also only one letter away from Le Blague Quebecois, which has an altogether different and often unwittingly accurate meaning), Gilles Duceppe accuses the government of plunging science into a black hole. He uses his visit to the Mont Megantic observatory, deprived of funds in the most recent budget (though whose funding has been restored by the Government, for which the Liberals are disingenuously taking credit, though it surely has more to do with internal Conservative affairs…), to suggest that the research funding cuts are driven by the Government’s reformist (and creationist, he can’t help but jab), science-scorning ideology.

Though it will surprise no one, surely, that the Bloc Quebecois can work itself into a self-righteous, over-the-top rage at the Federal Government, Duceppe also provides a helpful link to the open letter at DontLeaveCanadaBehind (though the text refers only to “un site Internet”, since publishing the name of the site in a Bloc blog might cause their servers to crash…).
