Provincial Funding

February 4th, 2009

Most provincial governments provide funding for research. These are often in the form of matching funds for federal funding programs such as CFI and Genome Canada, though the provinces also provide stand-alone funding for some projects and many scholarships and fellowships.

Smaller provinces such as PEI, New Brunswick and Newfoundland supply little provincial research funding, but receive regional funding with the other Atlantic provinces through the federal government through the Atlantic Innovation Fund. Nova Scotia funds a variety of research programs through the NSHRF.

Ontario’s Ministry of Research and Innovation oversees a variety of funding programs, including the Ontario Research Fund.
