Research funding forum gets front page coverage.
The researchers at DontLeaveCanadaBehind have been doing good work trying to mobilize Canadian researchers into a dialogue with government and its funding agencies about the role of science in society and the status of science funding. They’ve sent an open letter, which now has more than 2,000 signatories, to the Prime Minister and the leaders of the opposition parties as an attempt to open constructive dialogue about how funding works in Canada. Today they got a big shot in the arm (and spike in their internet traffic!) from a front-page profile in the Globe and Mail by the tireless Anne McIlroy.
Major kudos to the scientists at DLCB; they deserve credit and thanks for their attempt to mobilize Canadian researchers. I encourage scientists and other interested parties to check out their site, sign the letter if you’re so inclined, and participate in the forums.
